Shelby is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) with experience in higher levels of care working with adolescents, adults, and families. She is experienced in assessing risk and creating safety plans. Shelby values collaboration in treatment and aims to create a space for clients to feel safe and heard. Shelby uses a Person-Centered, strengths-based approach, pulling in other techniques such as Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Psychoeducation, and Expressive Therapies. Shelby has experience working with individuals of various racial and cultural backgrounds and members of the LGBTQ+ community. She has worked with clients to treat symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma, anger management, suicidal ideation and self-harm behaviors. Shelby supports clients in developing their self-esteem and identity, developing self-advocacy skills, and increasing techniques for symptom management.
Shelby received her Bachelors in Psychology from Stonehill College and her Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Merrimack College. Shelby gained experience through work at a partial hospitalization program and a residential group home. Shelby has been trained by JRI in their My Life My Choice program, a program developed to educate professionals to support youth who are victims of Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC).
